Where in New Zealand is Arthurs Point?
By Anna Hayes 2017-05-26
Arthurs Point is a northern suburb of Queenstown, one often missed by many who visit the region. Nestled along the shores of the Shotover River, amongst the hills and forestry of surrounding Queenstown Hill and Bowen Peak, Arthurs Point is about a 5 minute drive from central Queenstown, but a world away from the hustle and bustle of the main town. Here you can relax amongst the beautiful scenery, walk the local tracks and bask in the beauty of alpine living.
One of the main activities in Arthurs Point is jet boating along the famous Shotover River. This thrilling ride is not for the faint hearted, as you will be powered through the narrow Shotover River Canyons past jaw-dropping scenery.
Those who enjoy walking through nature can wander along the Moonlight Track - a long walking/running track which gives access to Ben Lomond and Moke Lake. A shorter track, the Oxenbridge Tunnel Track, is accessed from near the Edith Cavell bridge and showcases some local mining history.
Located just a 15 minute drive from Arthurs Point, Coronet Peak Ski Area is a much-loved ski field in New Zealand offering a variety of terrain for all ages and abilities.
When looking for Arthurs Point accommodation, Trelawn Place is an ideal option. Situated on the absolute shores of the Shotover River, surrounded by majestic mountains, Trelawn Place is just 10 minutes from Coronet Peak Ski Area and offers a range of accommodation options, with your choice of 2 stunning standalone cottages, a self-catering apartment, or bed and breakfast accommodation in the main house.
Situated amongst such stunning surrounds, on historic gold mining land, Trelawn Place has also hosted many weddings and is the perfect location for a romantic getaway for the bride and groom.
Accommodation in Arthurs Point can quickly become booked out through busy seasons - such as the ski season, school holidays, public holidays and major events. It is a good idea to get your booking in early to secure your accommodation. Don't forget to check with the hosts for any special requirements you may have, such as disabled access facilities, child friendly or pet friendly services, or dietary requirements if food is supplied.
Athurs Point is a beautiful location for a holiday in any season of the year. In winter, the surrounding mountains are shrouded with snow and nearby Queenstown comes alive with the Queenstown Winter Festival. Skiiers and snowboarders come from around the world to ski the world-class ski fields located nearby - with 5 in total to choose from.
In summer, the warm sunny weather invites visitors to stroll along the shores of the Shotover River or through the Moonlight Track. You can fish, swim or jet boat in the river or in the nearby Lake Wakatipu. In autumn, the leaves turn yellow and line the town with gorgeous shades of yellows, oranges and browns.
